The 1991/92 season saw Sampdoria field several Italian superstars in their first XI, including: Gianluca Pagliuca, Roberto Mancini & Gianluca Vialli. Sadly, they failed to defend the title as they finished in 6th place.
They did however, come extremely close to winning the European Cup, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Barcelona in the final.
