Everything You Need to Know About This Weekend's Petrofac Cup Final...

Posted by Christopher Smith on

Here at Football Nation, we're getting super-excited about this Sunday's Petrofac Cup final. The game is set to be contested between Livingston (who we kit supply) & Alloa Athletic.

Both clubs have fought tooth & nail to make it the final and the fanzone being organised looks to be one of the best ever - making it a superb day out for fans of both clubs.

What is the Petrofac Cup?

The Petrofac Cup was first created in the 1990-1991 season and was first called the B&Q Centenary Cup. As the name suggests, it was to celebrate 100 years of the Scottish Football League. Although intended to be a one-off competition, it proved to be so popular that it has continued to this day.

When is the Petrofac Cup?

It's being held this Sunday in Perth and it kicks off at 4.05pm.

Where is it being held?

The final will take place at St. Johnstone's home ground of McDiarmid park in Perth.

Who are the current holders?

Raith Rovers are the current holders after beating Rangers 1-0 in last year's final. Raith went out early on in the competition with a 1-0 loss to Dunfermline.

Who did Livi & Alloa beat to get to the final?

In the semi final Livingston fought a tough game with Stranraer that finished 1-1. It went to a penalty shootout where the Lions won 5-4.

Alloa's semi-final was a high-profile victory over Rangers. An end to end game saw the Wasps run out 3-2 winners.

Who are the favourites?

Well, according to mcbookie.com, NEITHER side are the favourites. They can't be separated as both sides come in at 13/8 to lift the cup, with the draw 12/5. (odds checked on 01/04/15)

Why should I go along?

Apart from the obvious reason, (to cheer on your club, duh) there are a load of things happening in the build up to the match. The Fanzone looks to be the biggest event ever organised for a Challenge Cup final and will feature live music, freestyle footballers, giant-sized human table football, community football for the kids & much much more. Head over to spfl.co.uk/news/article/petrofac-final-fanzone for the full details.

In addition to that, there will be a Football Nation stand in the fanzone where you'll be able to buy loads of Livingston FC Petrofac Cup Final merchandise.
